Russian Commando Vityaz (Knight) was created on 29 December 1977 as Russian Spetsnaz unit of the MVD as an elite dedicated counter-terrorism. On September 1, 2008, Vityaz was deactivated and then merged into a single unit, the 604th Red Banner Center of Special Purpose of the MVD of Russia.
